Callisto is a broadcast specification (SMPTE-259M) 270 Mbit video switcher with DSK (downstream keyer) designed for studio, edit suite and transmission applications. Callisto can handle fully asynchronous (unlocked) inputs in a mixed signal format (SDI and analogue) environment.
The programme and preview outputs are available as both SDI and analogue composite with 10-bit processing throughout. There are two SDI auxiliary switched outputs for monitoring and routing, and switchers fitted with the composite input option also have a separate composite switched output. The incoming sources can be asynchronous as Callisto features dual channel framestore synchronisers. The switcher will operate in stand-alone mode, or may be genlocked to an external reference. A line store (minimum delay) mode is also available via the set-up menu.
Operationally, Callisto works in conventional programme/preview bus mode. Installed functions include manual and auto wipe (multiple patterns with normal/reverse, colour border and soft edge), manual and auto dissolve, and auto fade to black. A new feature is the Hot-Cut function, which allows the operator to make cuts directly on the programme bus without the freeze-frame commonly associated with asynchronous switchers. Callisto is dual standard 525/625 and offers 4:3 or 16:9 (letterbox) blanking. In conjunction with the Callisto-C control panel, the extensive menus allow the user to tailor the operational modes to suit individual requirements. An internal TSG provides EBU bars and other test `signals.
Callisto also features a DSK with fully synchronising SDI inputs for external 'Key' and 'Fill' and a 'clean feed' (pre-DSK) programme output. Optional analogue composite decoders allow signal acquisition in mixed format environments (SDI digital and analogue) without compromising any of the unit's other features. This allows the switcher to be used efficiently in today's transitional environment while retaining the necessary specifications and features for the all-digital world of tomorrow. The shift function allows the user to switch formats on any input channel between transitions. Callisto can be controlled via industry standard editor protocols such as GVG, GVG-M2100 and Sony DFS, and has a full complement of assignable (take/ftb/source select) GPI functions and GPI high-current output drivers.
